Meet Your Teacher
Joh Jarvis teaches Vedic Meditation exclusively in person to small groups in New York City, Sydney and Adelaide. She has taught more than 1,000 people internationally, from business leaders and creatives to incarcerated people and prison officers.

During her 23-year career as a journalist and senior executive at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Joh discovered Vedic Meditation while experiencing grief and burnout. The practice helped her recover and rediscover her enjoyment of life and work, inspiring her to teach others.
In 2014, Joh trained as a meditation teacher in the Shankaracharya tradition. The following year, at 49, she left the ABC, sold her Sydney home and moved to New York to teach Vedic Meditation full-time.
In 2020, Joh began teaching at Rikers Island through her nonprofit organisation, The Light Inside. Her work has since expanded to other US correctional facilities.
Her teaching is practical and relaxed, with room for questions and ongoing support as students establish a regular practice. What she loves most is helping people make meditation a lasting part of their lives.
A program evaluation involving 275 of Joh’s students found average improvements of nearly 50% in sleep quality and ability to manage stress, and 25% in wellbeing, within the first four days of learning. For those who remained in the study for the following six weeks the improvements were maintained. You can read the report here.
